This is a letter written by Logika Putra Janf - first winner of Erlass Speech Contest

Good morning ladies and gentlemen, first of all I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Logika Putra Janf, but you can call me Logika. I am from SDN Pejaten Barat 07 Pagi. I live in P&K complex number 17, Pejaten. I am the third children from a very very happy family. Anyway, I love to read books and eating pizza. I also love to play violin! I spent almost every day to practice my violin play, so I can be better at it. And I have been dreaming to be a pediatrician. Do you know what pediatrician is, Mr. and Mrs. Jury? Pediatrician is a kid specialist doctor. I am dreaming to be one because I want to be able to heal little kids from diseases.

Today, in this very very beautiful morning, I am going to deliver a speech about what I want to say to our beloved Governor, Mr. Joko Widodo.

Mr. Joko Widodo better known by his nickname Jokowi was born in Surakarta, on June 21, 1961. He is an Indonesian politician and the current Governor of Jakarta. He was previously the Mayor of Solo too, he brought rapid changes to Solo and applied the motto Solo: The Spirit of Java.

I can see that Mr. Jokowi is a humble man, and he doesn’t give up with endless Jakarta problems. That is why I became one of his biggest fans and I have always wished to be able to meet him soon as there is something that I want to tell him.

Sir, the only thing I want to talk about right now is the new curriculum in the next Academic Years. I have been hearing rumors about the new curriculum for all Elementary Schools in Indonesia that will exclude English Subject. I personally object this arrangement because I believe that most of the elementary school student in Jakarta will lose the only access to learn English. While I think that English is very very important, because it is a universal language that people use to communicate with people all around the world. If we don’t study English, if I didn’t study English, I will not be able to enter this speech contest firstly. Secondly, we will not be able to communicate with other people from all around the world. Mr. Jokowi, you are an entrepreneur too! You must understand that English is very important to us; you realize that you will not understand the order from non-Indonesian buyers, if you don’t study English. And Sir, that’s going to make Jakarta as the capital city of a country being one step behind from the others, again.

I know it’s so hard to convince the Central Government to change the arrangement. But Sir, look at you! You are now the government of Jakarta, the metropolitan city that happened to also be the capital city of Indonesia. People will look at you. The country will look at you. They will look at the difference that we can make, Sir! So, are you going to give us a shot by making English as one of the Local Content Subject in Jakarta? Because I want to have friends from other countries, I really want to be able to compete with my luckier friend that can study in an English course, I really want to study English, Sir! And I want us, as the future generation, to make a difference. A good difference.

I hope that it could change your mind. Thank you very very much for your attention. Good morning, and have a Good Day! Viva Jakarta!
