Are you a senior high school student?  How good is your English for your next step in this competitive life? The last year of high school for many students is a time to decide whether to pursue higher education or enter the workforce.  This is true for 12th grade students at Public High School 6 (SMAN 6), South Jakarta as they consider higher education overseas or international university and they need to take TOEFL ITP (Test of English as a Foreign Language) that would help them measure their English language skills.

The seven students have been taking the paper-based TOEFL ITP program for 4 weekly sessions every Saturday in preparation for TOEFL, scheduled to be held in December at Erlass Institute, South Jakarta.

The seven students from Public High School 6, South Jakarta, are interested in a variety of majors at universities abroad.  Nadya is a science and math student interested to study electrical engineering in Germany.  Fellow science and math student Nadira is eyeing studies in biotechnology in Singapore.  Jauza and Anita are social sciences students interested to study international business in California, United States and the Netherlands respectively.  The remaining science and math students are Mardiyyah, who is interested to study international relations in Japan; Tasya is interested towards a major in interior design in Asia or Indonesia and Hani wants to study international business in Asia.

The TOEFL ITP test scores help the student determine entry to a foreign university, access to a scholarship and help professionals towards a job promotion.  The process to reach a score of 500 and above is the ultimate challenge for students with an eye to entering a foreign university in the United States, Australia, United Kingdom, Canada, Singapore, Malaysia and even Europe.

The TOEFL ITP offers the following benefits including :

  • Placement in intensive English-language programs requiring academic English proficiency at a college or graduate level
  • Monitor progress in English-language programs stressing academic English proficiency.
  • To finish English-language programs by demonstrating proficiency in English listening and reading.
  • Admissions to short-term, non-degree programs in English-speaking countries where the sending and receiving educational institutions agree to use TOEFL ITP scores.
  • Admissions to undergraduate and graduate degree programs in non-English speaking countries in which English is not the dominant language of instruction.
  • Admissions and placement in collaborative international degree programs where English-language training will be a feature of the program.
  • Scholarship programs.
